Fomosa

Dear Friends and Supporters, We have an important update concerning the congressional screening of Formosa Betrayed. After careful consultation with Members of Congress as well as the team at Formosa Films, we have decided to move the screening to the second week of September, 2009 in order to better take advantage of this exciting and unique opportunity and draw more attention to the film. The feedback we have received suggests that by holding the screening at the beginning of the fall Congressional session we can ensure that the film gets the most possible exposure. In addition, we are working with members of Congress to build a series of other special events surrounding the film’s screening in which to draw more attention to the issue of Taiwan’s democracy. By moving the film to the fall we also have an opportunity to hold private briefings with congressional staff and members. Formosa Films President Will Tiao and I are meeting with members of the House and Senate next week to seek their support. I would also like to take a moment and thank those of you who have already made donations to help support this venture. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and your contributions will be used to underwrite the September events. The reality of the situation is that getting Formosa Betrayed seen by influence makers is a difficult journey. Hosting a congressional screening on such a controversial political subject has never been done in Washington DC and there are many who, for their own political purposes, do not want this film seen. We are already facing a rallying of forces that oppose the screening and want to sweep history under the rug. Rest assured, with your continued support we will not let that happen. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or would like to help. Best wishes, Terri J. Giles 賈泰麗 Executive Director Our original budget was $20,000; however, I want to give you some idea of the true costs of holding a screening on Capitol Hill. While scouting locations, we were given a quote of $40,000 which only includes the cost of the theater. Holding this event in Washington DC is costly. The Formosa Foundation will make sure each donated dollar goes as far as possible. However, we are still a ways from our initial fundraising goal and need your help. Making a donation to the Formosa Foundation is quick and easy. Our homepage has a secured portal through which you can make a donation using your credit card or PayPal account. Go to www.formosafoundation.org and click on the “Make a Donation” button on the screen. You may also write a check, payable to the Formosa Foundation, and mail it to 350 S. Figueroa Street, Suite 275, Los Angeles, CA 90071.
